Based on over 30 years of teaching, William C. Bruce, a Professor of Education, at the University of Texas at Tyler, shows teachers how organized mindteasing tempts teachers and students to use critical thinking. INQUIRY ALIVE is a 113-page guide for conducting discrepant event inquiry lessons. The INQUIRY ALIVE objectives enable teachers to select topics in social studies or science, write their own discrepant events to fit the topic they selected, and conduct an inquiry lesson that addresses each syntax element in the discrepant event model. A main purpose of INQUIRY ALIVE is to instruct by example. The discrepant events offer teachers and their students a motivational entry into deeper analytic learning. Teachers will learn how to correlate and integrate discrepant events into their curriculum and instruction. By using discrepant event inquiries teachers see better how, an inquiry is a teaching strategy built around bottom up (instead of top down) intellectual confrontation. Teachers will learn how to use and create inquiry examples. Students will respond to their teachers examples creatively with meaningful outcomes. INQUIRY ALIVE provides an index. The instructive text is college level, but the discrepant events cover grades 1-adult. It is a scene you will always remember, as students begin the teacher/student questioning, and see how the inquiry method induces students to eagerly study the topic, reason it out, break it down, and evaluate.
